Hello!

Performers for Peace is an organization created and run by NJ teenagers whose goal is to raise money via the arts. Through concerts like the one we will be putting together on January 10, we aim to help contribute to the global community in a real, tangible way that builds momentum and spreads hope. Whether you can attend the concert or not, you are still able to help us raise awareness and donations for the wonderful organization which this particular presentation is focused on.

If you are able to attend, our concert is on Saturday, January 10 from 8 to 10 PM at Social Club Records in Rutherford NJ. Admittance is free, but donation is highly encouraged!

The recent Hurricane Melissa has caused catastrophic impact, with widespread destruction of roofs and infrastructure, mass power outages, and severe flooding and landslides in Jamaica, followed by significant effects throughout the Caribbean. This storm has destroyed homes and killed dozens, leaving families and communities at risk of further harm and desecration.

Note from the Organizer:

In 2017, Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, causing the longest blackout in U.S. history and triggering a severe humanitarian crisis. While my home was spared the worst, many I knew lost everything. For weeks, we were cut off from loved ones, especially those in the countryside who went months without power or clean water. It was a time when hope was hard to find.

But then, I witnessed the true meaning of Puerto Rico Se Levanta. It wasn't just a slogan, but a reality that was unfolding in our streets. I witnessed communities uniting: cooking for one another, clearing debris from homes and streets, and children finding joy again, playing in the sunlight. Even in the darkest nights, people created festivities to lift each other's spirits. At times I saw fear, and at others immense strength, but most of all, a profound commitment to stay and rebuild our island home.

That same spirit of communal support is one I now find every week running the streets of New York. During races and marathons, I see strangers cheering each other on, runners sharing words of encouragement, and thousands moving together for a common cause. It’s the same profound sense of people showing up for one another that

I witnessed in the wake of Maria.

That is precisely why we are organizing this run for Hurricane Melissa. We are channeling the collective energy of our community into a tangible cause to raise funds for Direct Relief. This is a chance to bring people together not just for the love of running, but for the love of helping one another rise.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Nomads Run Club is a community made up of people who are answering the call to serve the communities that were affected by this terrible storm. We are partnering with Direct Relief on Saturday, December 13th for a 5k Run and Walk to raise money for Hurricane Relief. All the donations will go to Direct Relief to be used for the pressing needs of those in the Caribbean affected by this tragedy. All donations are tax deductible.

Every donation helps sustain this vital work, allowing Direct Relief to:

Provide critical medical supplies, like insulin and antibiotics, to underserved populations.

About This Fundraiser

This campaign is created in partnership with Direct Relief, a global humanitarian organization delivering life-saving medical aid where it’s needed most.

Most recently, the Mickey & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation, together with the Miami Heat and Carnival Corporation & plc, donated US $1 million to Direct Relief for the management and distribution of hurricane aid to Jamaica — a strong testament to the trust placed in their mission and effectiveness.

Together, we’re mobilizing support for southwestern Jamaica, one of the regions hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa, to help avert a growing health and humanitarian crisis.

Who We Are

We are Nicola and Peter Harvey, and though we now live in the United States, our hearts remain deeply tied to Jamaica — especially the Black River area and surrounding communities in the island’s southwest.

Nicola spent nearly half of her adult life there, and we both still have beloved family and friends who call Jamaica home. We know firsthand how limited access to healthcare can be even in the best of times — and how devastating it becomes when a hurricane strikes.

This fundraiser is our way of standing for what’s right — protecting, uplifting, and helping our communities heal through Direct Relief’s trusted, transparent, and life-saving mission.

Our Purpose
